How to teach a dog trick
Your puppy can be a source for fun and amusement for you, your family and visitors. After you have taught basic obedience commands to your puppy, you can teach her some tricks to impress everyone. The tricks will not only be a source of fun and amusement but also reinforce the obedience training and bring your puppy closer to you.
This will go a long way in training your puppy to be a well-mannered puppy that is liked and loved by all. Your puppy can win attractive awards and prizes at dog shows and competitions by demonstrating these tricks.
Puppies are intelligent creatures. You can teach your puppy tricks quickly and easily if you give her proper training. You need patience and some food treats to get your puppy to learn tricks and impress everyone.
Basic Tricks:
You can easily teach your puppy some basic tricks. Each trick has an opening command and a closing command. The command to begin the trick should be something similar to “Sit” and the closing command could be “OK” or “free”. This way the puppy knows when to begin and when to end the performance. Give her food treats at the end of each command during the initial phases of training. However, you can reduce the food treats and replace them with praises as the puppy progresses with the training. In addition, you could do something different like playing her favorite game to reward her after a superb performance. Here are some simple steps to teach impressive tricks to your puppy.
Speaking:
Speaking or barking on command is an impressive command. You can teach your puppy to bark when you ask or indicate her to do so. This is a useful command for old or disabled persons who live alone in the house.
You can train your puppy to bark on command asking someone to make a loud noise by your door. Then you have eye contact with your puppy and proceed to command her to bark. It is important that you also teach her to stop barking when she loses eye contact with you.
You can start this training by holding a food treat or a toy in front of the puppy and then encouraging her to bark. Reward her with the treat or toy when she obeys you and speaks on command. You can also associate the command with a hand signal and use it just before she speaks. This will help her associate the hand signal to the command. To stop her from barking, you should say “Quiet” or stamp the ground with your feet. Reward her again if she obeys. Ignore her if she is not paying heed to your command. She will slowly get into the groove and follow your orders.
